Tuesday Coffee Chat – The One Question

coffeechat

I LOVE today’s Tuesday Coffee Chat question:

What is the one question you would ask everyone you meet?

I do have a go to question, and sometimes actually remember to ask it:

What is the best thing that has happened to you today?

Isn’t it great?  It is on my outgoing message on  my voice mail and it is funny how many people leave their message and take the time to tell me what the best thing of the day was for them!  I get a lot of compliments on my outgoing message for that reason.

At dinner with the step-kiddos that has become part of what I use to get them talking.  First I ask what is something new they learned that day.  Then we follow up with asking what the best thing of the day was, and they have to stop and think.  “Nothing” is not an acceptable answer for either dinner time inquiry.

SO, stands to reason that I ask YOU, my readers, what is the best thing that has happened to you today?

  1. I’d have to say my son Jesse called to tell me that he wants to come down to visit. Out of the blue, and so much needed to hear. Won’t be for a month, but that gives me time to plan. It doesn’t get any better than THAT !!

  2. I may have to answer – this post!!!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE your question. Especially because if someone has had a rough day, it gives them the opportunity to switch gears, get of any negative thought track, and think about what has been good. Like my avatar says: Life is beautiful, you just have to notice it.
So…. my other good thing today, is that I went back to sleep after the kids got on the bus and had a 2 hour nap. I felt a cold coming this week and wanted to get some rest before it raged out of control. And I woke up to lovely sunshine and feeling much better! 🙂

  3. Drives me crazy when my teenage boys answer questions with one word. You would think they know better by now that I won’t let them get away with it.
The best thing that happened to me today was my BFF dropping by for a cup of tea and to chat. It was a nice surprise.

  4. Asking a question that requires an answer rather than “yes” or “no” is always good especially if the person talks about themselves. The best thing so far today is that I went to my swim exercise class.and I am reading everyone else’s blog.

The best thing that happened to me today was my BFF dropping by for no special reason, just to chat and have tea.

  5. I always ask DH each evening when he comes home is there anything new going on at work. That doesn’t necessary mean about work per se, but the guys he works with. Your VM greeting is a nice idea. I may have to borrow that idea, except use it in a daily text to my children. That’s usually their favorite means of communicating due to the work schedules. Oh well, it was nice to spend a few minutes with you this morning!
